Events

Busy Bees Crafts
Wednesdays 1 pm-3 pm

Drop into the Discovery Classroom in the Visitor Centre and learn a new craft, or even bring your own craft along with you. Tea and biscuits available and pre-school children are welcome too. Contact Elaine at Oakwell for more information. Free but small charge for refreshments.

History Comes Alive – Adwalton Moor, the aftermath!
Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 March 12 noon–4 pm

A weekend of living history in the Hall and Gardens, including a military display, featuring the English Civil War Society’s ‘Colonel Robert Overton’s Regiment of Foote’ and friends.
£5 per adult and £2 per child – includes admission to the Hall. Supported by the Friends of Oakwell Hall.

Easter Activity Trail
Saturday 4 to Sunday 19 April.

Look for the clues on the ‘eggs’ you find around the walled garden to help you find the answer to the quiz. 50p per sheet.

VE Day
Friday 8 May 12 noon - 4 pm

Enjoy this special bank holiday with maypole dancing on the Hall lawn.
A great place to come together for a picnic and to enjoy some traditional music and dancing with the Friends of Oakwell Hall and Leeds Waits.
Free but normal Hall entry charges apply. Supported by the Friends of Oakwell Hall.

Spring Bank and Summer Holiday Activities
Saturday 23 to Sunday 31 May then Saturday 18 July to Sunday 6 September

Children’s activities will be organised over Spring Bank and the Summer Holidays down at the Countryside Centre by Hedgerow Conservation, who are currently opening the building from 11 am to 3 pm each weekend and most days during the school holidays too. Please visit their Facebook page @HedgerowConservation for further details of their work as well as future events and activities.

Classic Car Rally
Sunday 7 June 11 am - 4.30 pm

Organised by the Yorkshire Rover Club, this event on the front lawn of the Hall features classic cars of all makes and models. The afternoon will include craft stalls and refreshments.

Run for Jo and Family Fun Day
Sunday 21 June 9.30 am - 4 pm

Join us at this special event in honour of Jo Cox MP, which is the headline event of the 'Great Get Together' campaign. Take part in our 6.5km Challenge or 2.5km fun runs. Run, walk, support or simply come and enjoy a fun day out in our beautiful Country Park!
There will be food, entertainment and fun for all the family!

Chapterhouse Theatre Company stage Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic thriller in the walled gardens of our Elizabethan Hall. Please bring your own seating but no tables. The gardens will be open for viewing and picnics from 6.30 pm. Refreshments will be available during the interval from the Friends of Oakwell Hall.
£17 per adult, £10 for children (5-16) and NUS students.

The Leeds Waits in Concert

In association with historian/actor/writer Dorothy Parkin, The Leeds Waits offer a series of entertainments which fuse music, history, song, puppets and audience participation to tell some of the (mostly) true stories of early modern England. With clothes and instruments appropriate to the period of the story, the Leeds Waits will give you an entertaining and informative take on Yorkshire history.

2 pm – 3.30 pm each day, including an interval. Light refreshments will be available.

26 July: "The Shepherd Lord, the Nut-Brown Maid and the Lusty Brandons"
The story of the Clifford family of Skipton Castle - the death of the Lancastrian "Butcher" Clifford at the battle of Towton, the concealment of his infant son and heir until the Lancastrian victory at Bosworth and the dawn of the Tudor dynasty.

30 August: "The Only King Ever Born in Leeds"
The life of Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley. His birth at Temple Newsam, his early life and his tempestuous marriage to Mary Queen of Scots, his murder, and Mary’s exile in England and eventual execution for treason.

27 September: "Lady Anne Clifford, Yorkshire's Own Iron Lady"
The story of Lady Anne Clifford, the daughter of George, 3rd Earl of Cumberland and Master of Skipton Castle, her unhappy marriages to the Earls of Dorset and Pembroke, and her fascinating life at Court and in the country.

Admission £5 adults, £3 children/students. Booking essential.
Please note from 1.30 pm, Hall admission will be restricted to those attending the event.

Fun Dog Show
Sunday 6 September 11 am - 4 pm

You will be able to enter your dog in the show on the day.

Kirkwood Hospice Colour Rush
Sunday 13 September 9 am - 3 pm

The most colourful event of the year is back. Whether walking, skipping or dancing your way around the course, you’ll start in white but will be covered from head to toe in brightly coloured powder paint by the end of this family-friendly 5k with a difference. With live entertainment, family-friendly activities and a fantastic party atmosphere, the Colour Rush will be a great day out for all.

Heritage Open Weekend at Oakwell
Saturday & Sunday 19 & 20 September 12 noon – 4 pm

Enjoy free entry into Oakwell Hall over this national week celebrating Britain’s rich and diverse heritage. Sunday will also feature traditional craft activities with the Friends of Oakwell Hall.

Active Oakwell

Health Walks
Every Tuesday, meeting at 1.30 pm in the Visitor Centre Courtyard. A gentle walk around the park lasting no more than one hour. No need to book, just come along.

Nordic Walking
Every Wednesday, meeting at 10.30 am in the Visitor Centre Courtyard. A more challenging walk. No need to book, just come along.

Parkrun
Every Saturday at 9 am. A 5km run around the park for all abilities. You can even walk it.
